Fenwick Teacher Recipient of Cristo Award

Bishop Fenwick High School teacher Scott Walker was recently recognized for fostering self esteem in students.

Walker was awarded the Cristo Self Esteem Award from the Cristo Group through the Middletown Community Foundation.

The award was established by the Cristo family and comes with a crystal prism, a plaque and $1,000.

"At Fenwick, we believe that a person’s self esteem comes from knowing that you put forth effort to the best of your ability, as well as knowing that someone believes in you and thinks highly of you," said Principal Cathie Mulligan.

"Fenwick teachers routinely meet the criteria for fostering self esteem. In choosing a particular teacher for the award, we are choosing a representative of an outstanding faculty."

Mulligan described Walker as someone who looks at the big picture when dealing with students, treats students fairly according to their needs and sets very high academic standards.

She said he is always available to students for extra help, is more involved every year and brings out the best in students.

Walker has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Dayton.

He teaches U.S. History, Algebra II, Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry.

He also coaches the high school boys soccer and girls basketball teams. He recently was awarded a commendation from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for Catholic Teachers in May at their annual banquet.
